In 1862 the Richmond Depot Jackets became the standard type issue for the army of Northern Virginia. Short 1-1/2" stand up collar with a six piece, long waisted, square cut body and nine brass 'I' buttons. There is evidence to support seven and eight buttons front. The jacket is cut tight with cotton lining fitted with one inside pocket and full sleeves that have 5-1/2" cuffs. This type of jacket was trimmed with piping or tape, had epaullettes and belt loops. Our CSMC frock coat features as standard grey wool and cotton upper body lining with 7 Confederate 'M' buttons on the front and 2 buttons on the back of the coat at the waistline. Each cuff has 2 small buttons. An inside left breast pocket and pockets in the folds are standard.
